Recruiting is harder than it was five years ago. Coaches fill rosters earlier. There are thousands of programs. And most families have no way to know what a coach actually thinks of their player or what level they can really play at. So they spend the year on showcases, visits and applications without a plan, and take whatever spot is still open in the spring.

Here's what you absolutely need to know.
The dangers of waiting. Many players consider waiting. They want to finish the season first, get a better tape together, let a few more coaches see them play. The problem is that coaches aren't waiting. They're filling their rosters right now. Even schools that previously offered you a spot may have already signed someone else. Then, you're in the worst possible negotiating position, looking for any team that still has a spot, and taking whatever you can get.
Knowing what level to play at. Most families don't know, and most of what they hear is either a coach encouraging their players, not a college recruiter dissecting them. Not having D1 offers as a senior doesn't necessarily mean you're not a D1 player. Coaches haven't seen you against college competition yet, and how you preform there matters. That's why we see this all the time: a player takes the D2 spot that's right for him, starts as a freshman, puts up real numbers, and 6-months later he's picking between D1 offers with mid six-figure NIL deals.
